Chinese electronics and software company Xiaomi introduces next flagship smartphone "Mi 8" is supposed to be the sequel to "Mi 6". It will be launched with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The Xiaomi, Chinese Android manufacturer’s flagship includes a 3D facial recognition unlocking feature, the Snapdragon 845 chipset with up to 8GB RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 4,000mAh battery with support for wireless charging. Xiaomi had two other high-end phones "Mi Mix 2" in 2017, "Mi Mix 2s" in 2018, which both have feature larger displays.
Xiaomi released its first smartphone in August 2011 and has rapidly gained market share in China to become China's largest smartphone company in 2014. As of 2017, Xiaomi was the world's 5th largest smartphone company. As of the start of Q2 of 2018, Xiaomi has now become the world's 4th largest smartphone manufacturer. Xiaomi has expanded into developing a wider range of consumer electronics, including a smart home (IoT) device ecosystem.
Vivo, a major Chinese smartphone brand owned by the same company behind Oppo and One plus has also launched the smartphone with in-display fingerprint technology in earlier months.
The demand for in-display fingerprint sensors has grown as phone design evolves in the direction of slimmer bezels and screens taking up almost all of the front of the device.
