The Wimbledon tennis tournament was cancelled for the first time since World War II. The decision comes due to the coronavirus spreads. Wimbledon, the only grassroots tournament in Granslam, was to start on June 29.
The date of next year's tournament has also been announced. According to a post on Wimbledon's official website, the 2021 tournament will take place from June 28 to July 11. Wimbledon was previously cancelled during World War I and World War II. This was in 1914 and 1947.
With the cancellation of Wimbledon, all of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments will be in rhythm. Earlier, the French Open was postponed following the corona.
The current men's singles champion is Novak Dyokovic and the women's singles champion Simona Halep. Simona Halep tweeted that she was sad to have cancelled the tournament but that it was the right decision in the current situation. Simona says she hopes to see a better fight next year.
