Tom and Jerry director Eugene Merrill Deutsch passed away...

Eugene Merrill Deutsch, 95, the director of Tom and Jerry and Popeye animated films, has died. He has been undergoing treatment for months following his old age. Family have confirmed that he died at their apartment at Prague. 

Eugene has directed 13 films in the Tom and Jerry film series and a few in the Popeye the Sailor series. He was born in 1924 in Chicago. He served as a pilot in the Air Force. Then came to the animation and illustration. He won an Oscar for his animated short film, Monroe in 1960.

In 2004, he was awarded the Windsor McCoy Award for Outstanding Contribution to Animation.
