The enforcement wing of the Motor Vehicle Department with the government had given the nod to roll out the "State zone Project", for monitoring the road corridors in the state. The enforcement wing has 625 personnel in the grade of the Motor Vehicle Inspector(MVI) and assistant MVI for 1.5 crore vehicles. It will extend into 51 squads. The government decided to create new 262 posts in the MVD for executing the project. Ten Posts of Regional Transport Officer(RTO), 65 posts of MVI and 187 Posts of AMVI had been sanctioned. The decision is based on the project report submitted by the special officer P.D Sunil Babu.
The MVD will also be able to play a greater role in rescue operations and rushing the injured into the hospitals. The initiative is on the basis of the recommendations of the Supreme Court appointed Committee on Road Safety, Kerala Road Safety Authority and the mission's goal is to reduce the road accidents. The Project was executed on the lines of the trunk roads leading to Sabarimala which decreased the accidents, that lead MVD to establish the Safe Zone Project in all the districts of Kerala.
