The time has come to put the noose on the Pharma companies, Government of Kerala thinks so. Hence, a monitoring cell is being brought to find the companies who are ruthless in charging exorbitant prices, especially the life-saving drugs.
The monitoring cell in the Health Department of Government of Kerala will work in control by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority or NPPA.
Apart from the two laboratories functioning at Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, the 3rd laboratory at Thrissur is being established with modern facilities to strictly monitor the quality of medicines sold in the market.Random samples will be collected from the medical shops, will undergo the stringent test.
The quality of service provided by the two laboratories needs to undergo tests to get Accreditation by the National Accreditation Board Testing and Calibrations Laboratory or NABL for critical analysis is underway.
The Kerala government felt these checks and balances are needed as the Pharmaceutical companies have been too greedy by cornering the common man to pay through his nose.
