Kerala government to give 20 laks compensation to deceased in Ockhi

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declares 20 lakh rupees to each fisherman who was killed in Ockhi cyclone, includes the 10 lakhs announced earlier.5 lakh to those who are injured in the cyclone. In addition to the children of those deceased would be given free education, financial assistance to buy new boats and fishing nets to those who lost their boats, One-month free ration to all the fishermen.

The Chief Minister said that there has been no delay or fault with the government machinery in informing the fishermen warnings about the cyclonic storm coming towards south Kerala.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard brought 12 fishermen alive at Kochi today afternoon. Out of this, 10 persons were from Vallavalv, off Thiruvananthapuram coast. They ventured into the sea on 25 of November for fishing on the boat named 'Almighty God'.They survived the rough sea for 3 days during the cyclone, 50 kilometers off Kochi.

Ockhi effects are far from over. Kerala has to take a long time to come to terms with the reality. Kerala government needs to look this in a different perspective to give life to all the fishermen affected.
