Thiruvananthapuram: The ordinary thorny fruit "Jackfruit" made a revolution through the declaration of the official fruit of Kerala. It succeeded the stand on 21st March by the Agriculture Minister V.S Sunilkumar, who officially announced it in the state assembly.The major reason for this decision is the increasing need for the fruit and by realizing the economic value of the fruit to develop markets all over the world. Kerala Jackfruit is famous for its organic and nutritious quality. Tamilnadu also has jackfruit as its state fruit and it is also the national fruit of Bangladesh and Srilanka.
Recently jackfruit got demand by the people all over the world because of the realization of its medicinal importance. Researchers found that jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) can cure the diseases such as diabetes, Ulcer, Indigestion. The fruit is rich in Carbohydrates, Proteins, Minerals like Potassium, Calcium, and vitamins A, B, C, B6. India has to realize the importance of the fruit in future and to stop wasting it and promote it by including national agriculture and food policy.Dr. Abdul Kalam suggested that to include green jackfruit in traditional Indian meals So that a wider population of the country could use it to control diabetes. The researchers found that the jackfruit will definitely become the most sought-after fruit in the coming years.
