Colombo: India won the first match of the India-Sri Lanka ODI series by 7 wickets. Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 262 for nine in the allotted 50 overs while India chased down the target by three wickets in 36.4 overs. Karunaratne's lightning performance in the final overs gave Sri Lanka a better score.
Karunaratne scored 43 off 35 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (24), Minod Bhanuka (27), Asalanka (38 off 65 balls) and Dasun Shanaka (39 off 50 balls) were the other leading scorers.
Vanindu Hasaranga (8), Isuru Udana (8) and Dushmantha Chameera (13) were the only batsmen to miss out. For India, Deepak Chahar, Yusvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each. Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya took one wicket each.
In reply, openers Ishant Kishan and Prithviraj Shah gave India a good start. Kishan hit 59 off 42 balls, including eight fours and two sixes.
Prithviraj Shah scored 43 off 24 balls, including nine fours. Manish Pandey (26 off 39 balls) was caught by Dhananjaya off Shanaka. Suryakumar Yadav, who made his debut, was unbeaten on 31 off 20 balls with Dhawan.
