As part of the go-green initiatives, the district administration is partnering with the Kerala Hotels and Restaurants Association (KHRA) to provide the public with free access to drinking water and toilet facilities. By ensuring free drinking water, the administration hopes to reduce over-dependence on plastic water bottles.
District Collector K. Vasuki inaugurated the scheme which was being jointly implemented by the KHRA and the district administration under Project Sthithi of the Cpower5 (Change Can Change Climate Change) initiative.
“Hotels and restaurants have been providing free access to water and toilets to the public. But this is the first time that we have the district administration’s stamp of approval for this service,” B. Vijayakumar, district secretary, KHRA, said.
“At present, around 10 restaurants have joined the scheme. We expect all restaurants in the district to join it eventually,” Bharath Govind G.S., who heads Project Sthithi, said.
With the capital district still lacking an adequate number of public toilets, free access to toilets in restaurants and hotels is expected to benefit travellers in a big way.
