Governor P.Sathasivam will inaugurate the 12th edition of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala( IDSFFK), organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, at the Kairali theatre at 6 p.m. on June 21. Culture Minister A.K. Balan will preside over the function. The festival will be held from June 21 to 26.
The Festival has over the years evolved into the key platform for non-fiction filmmaking in the country, has been organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala as part of its endeavour to catalyse a vibrant documentary and short film movement. Increasing accessibility and affordability of media technology has led to a boom in the production and scope of films. The medium is now used by image-makers from all walks of life to express, experiment, learn. The democratization of the technology has given more space to diverse voices often breaking barriers of capital. The festival aims to map and reflect the exploding and imploding nature of the medium in its many facets of creativity and resistance.
The delegate registration can be done in the website IDSFFK. The delegate fee in the general category is ₹400, while for the student category, it is ₹200. A help desk for delegate registration will begin functioning at the Kairali theatre from Saturday onwards. A total of 263 films in various categories will be screened at the festival across three screens at Kairali, Sree and Nila theatres.
Out of this, 63 films are in the competition categories for long documentary, short documentary, short fiction and campus film. In the international category, 44 films have been included, while the focus category has 74 films and Malayalam category has 19 films. As part of the festival, open forum, in conversation and seminar sessions will be held.
